Trendsetters of the 1920s and 1930s included actress Clara Bow, who sported an early flapper cut, and singer Josephine Baker, whose exotic looks were closely watched and mimicked. In the 1940s, it was Marlene Dietrich's movie-star glamour that set the style; Marilyn Monroe's voluptuous bottle-blond tresses defined 1950s hair. Today, icon hair seems to be softer, with fewer frills and less flash. Jennifer Lopez has gone for long, elegant locks and Jennifer Love Hewitt often wears a simple chignon at the nape of the neck.
